Metal Powder Reuse in Additive Manufacturing

The powder bed additive manufacturing process is increasingly used for industrial productions of components like medical prosthesis, aircraft components or injection molding tools. It is well known how the quality of the metal powder feedstock is important to obtain good quality components. However, there are few investigations about how the consecutive reuse of metal powder may worsen the powder quality and so affect the reliability and repeatability of the process. This presentation shows the results of a preliminary study focused on the reuse of the titanium alloy Ti6Al4V powder, one of the most used material in industrial AM.
