Francesco FRACASSI
(Università degli Studi di Bari)

Francesco Fracassi graduated in Chemistry cum laude in 1983 and since January 2004 is full professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bari. In November 2010 he became the chair of the Department of Chemistry and in November 2012 member of the Academic Senate of the University of Bari. He teaches General and Inorganic Chemistry for the degrees in Material Science, General and Inorganic Chemistry and Plasma Chemistry for the degree in Chemistry.

The research activity of prof. Fracassi concerns essentially with non equilibrium plasma (e.g. diagnostics, surface modifications, treatments and functionalizations, thin film deposition, dry etching, nanomaterial preparation, etc.) both at low pressure and at atmospheric pressure. The research activity are carried out in collaboration with prestigious public and private research institutes and companies.

Prof. Fracassi was invited speaker in may international events (congresses, symposia, workshops), he was associate editor of the Journal "Plasmas and Polymers" (Plenum New York), he is currently member of the editorial board of the journal "Plasma Processes and Polymers" (Wiley-VCH), and for the triennium 2013-2016 he is vice president of the Plasma Science and Technique division of IUVSTA “International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications”. Professor Fracassi was component of several organizing committees of events, conferences and workshops.

He was Chairman of the international school “Plasma Processes for Microelectronics” ISPC-16 (June 2003 -Taormina, Italy), of the "Workshop on Industrial Applications of Plasma Processing" ISPC-16 (June 2003 -Taormina, Italy), and of the "5th International Workshop on Polymer/Metal Nanocomposites" (September 2011, Bari). Thanks to the industrial relevance of the results of his research, in 2004 prof. Fracassi, with his colleagues Riccardo d'Agostino and Pietro Favia, founded “Plasma Solution srl”, one of the first spin-off SME of south Italy, remaining a member of the Board of Directors until 2010.
