Dorota PAWLAK
(ITME, Poland)

Professor Dorota A. Pawlak
, Head of the Laboratory of Functional Materials at ITME and the Laboratory of Materials Technologies at the Centre of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw. She proposed utilizing the eutectic crystals solidification for metamaterials and plasmonic materials applications – which is a novel idea within the world research community. She was the first coordinator of NMP FP7 project in Poland. She is president of the Polish Society for Crystal Growth (2013-2015), Director in the Board of Directors of Virtual Institute of Metamorphose (2007-currently).

Professor Dorota A. Pawlak (DAP) received her M.Sc. (1994, crystallochemistry), Ph.D. (1999, crystallochemistry) and D.Sc. (2011, physicochemistry of solid state) in chemistry from the University of Warsaw. From 1994 she is the member of the staff of the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology (ITME) in Warsaw. ITME is the biggest technological research institute concentrated on technology and materials development in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe. The research and development work is integrated with experimental production of electronic and optoelectronic products and components. DAP spent two years (2000-2001) at the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan as research associate. In 2012 she spent 9 weeks at the Stanford University within a competitive TOP500 Innovators program. From 2011 she is a professor at ITME and from 2014 also at the University of Warsaw. She leads the Laboratory of Functional Materials at ITME and the Laboratory of Materials Technologies at the newly built Centre of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw. DAP proposed utilizing the eutectic crystals solidification for metamaterials and plasmonic materials applications – which is a novel idea within the world research community. As a result she succeeded to gather first class researchers from 7 Institutions and 6 EU countries and together the group succeeded in getting an FP7 Collaborative Project ENSEMBLE: ENgineered SElf-organised Multi-component structures with novel controllaBLe Electromagnetic functionalities. DAP coordinated the efforts of the Project 2008 - 2012. It was the only FP7 Collaborative Project in NMP Area, from the 1st call, coordinated by Poland.

Her idea was later used by Air Force Office for Scientific Research in US - AFOSR, which opened a call for Multi University Research Initiative (MURI) project for US universities consortia for the subject proposed originally by DAP "Directional eutectic structures: self-assembly for metamaterials and photonics". She was the laureate of the FNP TEAM Programme, which main objective was to increase engagement of young scientists in research performed by the best teams and in the best laboratories in Poland. DAP serves as a Director in the Board of Directors of Virtual Institute of Metamorphose 2007-currently. She is a member of Scientific Board of ITME (2008-2015). She is the president of the Polish Society for Crystal Growth (2013-2015). She is a member of KRAB Association - National Committee of Coordinators of EU Projects. She is co-author of 2 patents and 7 patent applications, she published ~56 original papers (including J. Am. Chem. Soc. IF(2013)=11.444, Adv. Funct. Mat. IF(2013)=10.439, Chem. Mater. IF(2013)=8.535, Inorg. Chem. IF(2013)=4.794, Cryst. Growth & Design. IF(2011)=4.558, Phys. Rev. B IF(2008)=3.664) with >500 citations (excluding own citations), ~150 Impact Factor (2013), 4 journal covers, 3 book articles, 60 invited lectures (including 1 plenary & 3 keynote lectures). In 2000 she received the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) prize for young scientists, and in 2011 she was the Laureate of 2011 Innovator competition organized by Polish Federation of Engineering Associations, Polish Patent Office, Society of Polish Innovators, and editorial office of „Przegląd Techniczny”. From 2015 she is a member of editorial board of J. Phys. D within the Semiconductor and Photonic materials and Devices Physics sub-board.
