Born in Rome, Italy. Degree in Biology, “La Sapienza” University of Rome (1995); PhD in Medical Embryology, “Tor Vergata” University of Rome (2000); Post-Doctoral fellow at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, USA (2000-2003).
She is an Assistant Professor in the Laboratory of Histology and Embryology at the University of “Tor Vergata”, Rome, Italy. She is also appointed Visiting Assistant Professor at the Dept of Cell and Developmental Biology, Weill Cornel Medical College, New York, USA.
Field of research: her research interests are focused on the molecular mechanisms driving placental morphogenesis and the factors that might impair its development. In this respect she is involved in several projects investigating the effect of exposure to engineered nanoparticles (metal and carbon based) during pregnancy and the effects on placental and embryo growth.
She has expertise in microdissection of mammalian tissues, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.
She is member of the Management Committee of the COST Action MODENA, Modelling Nanoparticle Toxicity. She is also member of the Editorial Board of Particle and Fibre Toxicology
